Exeter High grad gains new perspective from Peace Corps service
2010 Exeter High School graduate Kelsey Bumsted recently returned home to New Hampshire after a two-year experience serving with the Peace Corps in Belize. Bumsted applied for the Peace Corps during the summer of 2014 after graduating from Keene State College, largely due to two of her professors who went abroad in small communities such as Africa and Libya.

Meet Stratham’s own Dragon Slayer — Nicholas Melendez
Nicholas Melendez, 26, spent more than 500 hours with a 3-D printer crafting his costume of the Dragon Slayer from the video game Dark Souls for the 5th Annual Boston Comic Con at Faneuil Hall Marketplace Costume Parade. Melendez won first place in the competition and is attending the 2017 Boston Comic Con at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center Aug. 11-13.

Legos therapy for Newmarket boy who battled cancer
For 10-year-old Dillon Fiske, Legos are therapeutic. Dillon was diagnosed with a brain tumor at the age of 6 and used Legos as a means of regaining control of his shaking hands and recovering coordination. Now he builds Legos every day, and was one of the 13 chosen from a pool of 30-plus kids to earn a spot on the Legoland Discovery Center Boston’s Creative Crew.

La Cascade Du Chocolat to revive a tradition in downtown Exeter
Master chocolatier Samantha Brown and chocolatier Tom Nash will soon be sweetening Exeter a bit with the opening of their “chocolate house.”. La Cascade Du Chocolat is expected to open July 15 at 109 Water St. to coincide with the annual Independence Day Festival. “Historically, colonial chocolate houses were places where people would come to talk about ideas, big and small,” Brown said.

Eagle Scout project creates kiosk on Morrisette property
In order to achieve the highest rank in scouting, that of Eagle, Daniel Stinson created a kiosk on the Morissette property at Jolly Rand Road, a trail next to the Exeter Area YMCA gymnasium parking lot and the Seacoast School of Technology. A kiosk, with a small sheltering roof, serves as a resource with maps and information about the trail.

Local Smuttynose Brewery brews UNH 1866 beer for the UNH 150 Celebration
The Smuttynose Brewery Company sold out of its newly released UNH-themed beer, “1866,” the week after its initial release on March 13. According to Smuttynose Brewery Communications Specialist Doug Horner, the process of brewing and canning the beer took about two weeks before distribution and delivery to locations all throughout the seacoast.

UNH researchers create new material for biomedical use
According to Li, this new material is unique due to its elevated internal rotation caused by auxetic effects, meaning that, when the material is stretched, it becomes thicker perpendicular to the applied force. This particular dynamic of the material engages advanced protection from forces of impact or tension, which would make the material useful for armor or headgear.

ECenter recruits student entrepreneurs through sticky notes
Since January of this year, students interested in starting their own companies have had the opportunity to develop their original ideas through the use of the Peter T. Paul Entrepreneur Center (ECenter). Thoughts and ideas of some student entrepreneurs can be first seen upon a sticky note filled bulletin board that is located at the entrance to the center.

Apps make it easier for students to order food
Mobile food ordering applications, such as Tapingo and Push For Pizza, have proven to solve common frustrations of waiting in line or calling on the phone for UNH students. Instead, with the apps students are able to grab their craving of Wildcatessen in a matter of minutes. “People don’t want to wait for their food and Tapingo eliminates that for them,” said UNH student Ryan Foley.

I am a recent English & Journalism graduate from the University of New Hampshire looking to develop the skills I learned from UNH and utilize them in new, creative ways.

I have always loved writing. Writing has been the world in which my thoughts and memories are recorded, and emotions are grieved. It's a world I feel most comfortable in.

I have been writing my first novel titled "Changing Skin" for a number of years and I want to finally get a finalized draft for the public to read.
